Orico helpfully provides the 408MiB driver package online, and they are also available elsewhere with some digging. The only drawback is that the drivers are from 2012, but they're still the latest version, work fine with modern Windows OS's, and it's not Orico's fault that CSR hasn't updated them. #CAMBRIDGE SILICON RADIO BLUETOOTH DONGLE SOFTWARE DRIVERS# None of the other Bluetooth receivers from Intel, Realtek, Atheros, Ralink, Broadcom, etc. For PCs that I've used (standalone USB dongles or miniPCIe combo WiFi+BT cards in laptops) supported aptX. CSR invented both Blu etooth and the aptX codec, and although they seem to have been more liberal on the embedded side of things (e.g. My Galaxy Note 4 supports aptX even though the Bluetooth hardware on it is from Broadcom), they don't seem to have licensed the use of the codec much with PC hardware.

It's kind of a shame as the Bluetooth protocol does support streaming AAC and MP3 directly, which would cut out a reencoding step with already encoded music, but pretty much nobody makes Bluetooth devices that can pass those through or decode them. So in practice aptX is more or less essential for high-quality audio streaming over Bluetooth.īottom line - this, or a similar/better/newer CSR-based Bluetooth dongle, is the only kind of dongle you should buy. - Freeware - It's a connectivity software that enables a seamless wireless experience.CSR Harmony enables PC Bluetooth profiles, and the new Bluetooth low energy profiles designed for health and fitness, mice and keyboards, and other PC accessories.CSR more info.
